We’ve all heard the stories—someone is waiting for their luggage to hit the carousel so the vacation can begin (or so they can get home), and then… nothing! With so many bags looking the same—dark colors, similar sizes, etc.—it’s no surprise that occasionally someone grabs the wrong bag.
Now, you’re stuck spending your vacation trying to deal with the airlines to track down your luggage and belongings. I can’t imagine starting my getaway with that headache.
Fortunately, there are ways to avoid this situation and ensure you can easily and quickly spot your bag as it hits the carousel. Being able to quickly identify your luggage will also cut down on the time you spend waiting by the baggage claim.
One of the best strategies is to purchase brightly colored or uniquely designed luggage. That way, when you see that bright orange bag coming around, you can grab it with confidence and be on your way. This is my favorite approach.
If you already own luggage and don’t want to buy a new suitcase, another option is to use a unique luggage tag or tie bright ribbons or a luggage strap/belt on your bags to help them stand out.
I recently read a suggestion where a traveler painted their name on the luggage shell—certainly an effective method.
